Brace Yourselves: The Americans Are Coming To F1
A 12th F1 team has been granted entry to the sport for the 2015 season
A new Formula 1 team has been granted entry to the sport for the 2015 season. Gene Haas, co-owner of the Stewart-Haas NASCAR team, confirmed on Friday that the FIA has given his proposed team the green light to enter F1 next year.
The sport's governing body opened up a tender for a 12th team last December before completing a lengthy evaluation process. They recently revealed that a 13th team is being considered, called Forza Rossa. It's only the start of a very long road to making the 2015 season opener, but Haas is looking forward to getting an American team back on the F1 grid.
He said in a statement:
"Obviously, we're extremely pleased to have been granted a Formula 1 licence by the FIA. It's an exciting time for me, Haas Automation and anyone who wanted to see an American team return to Formula 1. Now, the really hard work begins. It's a challenge we embrace as we work to put cars on the grid. I want to thank the FIA for this opportunity and the diligence everyone put forth to see our licence application come to fruition."
