A British Political Party's Attempts To Ban All Cars Could Be Amended As It Might Prove 'Unpopular'
It’s fast approaching election time in the UK, so political parties are out in force trying to win our votes. The Green Party has had a pretty rough time of it so far, and now some of its own members have put forward an amendment to what we’d consider the party’s most controversial policy.
Let’s dive straight into exactly what’s up for debate:
Vehicles would not be permitted for road use that had the ability to travel at greater speeds than the majority of EU national maximum speed levels.
Yes, that’s right, any car that can exceed the maximum speed limit must be banned. Since pretty much every car made since the 50s is capable of more than 70mph, they’re essentially calling for all cars to be scrapped. In case you’re unaware, the Greens are an eco party, so you can understand why they want to come up with a solution to pollution (though quite what the eco solution is to having all those cars that can’t be driven sat rotting away is anyone’s guess). Tougher emissions measures? Cash incentives for buying eco cars? Nah, let’s just ban ALL THE CARS!
It seems that there are at least six people in the party who aren’t absolutely insane, for they have put forward an amendment, as the current policy would “probably prove unattractive with the electorate.” That’s quite the understatement there guys. While the rest of the parties focus on tough issues like poverty and immigration, you’re taking a hard line on the only viable mode of transport for the majority of voters. Stop people getting to work, that’ll kick-start the economy!
Unfortunately, the amendment isn’t much better:
The Green Party would introduce legislation to encourage car manufacturers to introduce speed limiters in vehicles to prevent them travelling faster than the UK national maximum speed limit.
The above poll by The Mirror shows just how unpopular a decision to ban all cars would be with the general public. If there’s one silver lining in all this, it’s that the Green Party has ballsed up its recent public engagements, so there’s little chance of them getting into power. The war on the motorist continues.
