This Bug-Powered Ferrari Is Low On Speed But High On Cool

We love a uniquely-modified motor, and there are few that can match this Volkswagen-engined Kelmark GT.

The owner of this particular beast bought the Kelmark Engineering body kit from a friend, who had left it to rust in his garage for 15 years. The kits were made in the 70s, and this particular example had been left in terrible condition - the wheels wouldn't even turn.

Under the hood was this 1969 air-cooled Beetle engine, which was in a proper state. A change of oil and spark plugs got it running, but it wasn't exactly smooth as 15-year-old oil and other gunk coated the internals.

Without any prior experience of rebuilding a car, the internet proved an excellent educational tool. With a healthy dose of perseverance, the engine bay started to look a lot cleaner and run smoothly. Small issues continually arose, such as the brake lines all needing replacing, but that's all part of the charm...

The interior was completely wrecked, so everything was ripped out. At this point the miles of tangled wires sapped motivation, however after spending a little more than intended on gauges, the cockpit began to take shape.

A smart black paint job brought everything together, and the result is a sweet little sports car.
