Buy A Used BMW M4 CS For Three Times Less Than The New One

The new M4 CS is an eyebrow-raising £117k, but you don’t have to pay that much for a car with that badge on the boot

If you spat coffee all over your screen when reading that the new BMW M4 CS is going to cost a whopping £117,100, fear not, as we have a solution. It comes, of course, from the used market, where we’ve found a rather compelling alternative for considerably less.

It’s an F82-generation M4 CS, and yes, we also raised a collective eyebrow at how much they were when new (£89,130, or about £30k more than an M4 Competition of the day), but a few years and some depreciation have worked their wonders.

Today, for £41,990, you could have this approved-used F82 M4 CS. To save you loading up your calculator app, that works out about three times less than a new M4 CS once you’ve added some carbon ceramic brakes.

Our used pick, by the way, has the boggo steel brakes, but that’ll keep the replacement costs down when it comes to it. Perhaps more importantly, it’s specced in the gorgeous San Marino Blue worn by the CS in the original press pack. The mileage, meanwhile, is very reasonable for the year at 29,531.

BMW only made 3,000 of these, so you’re getting plenty of exclusivity in with the deal, along with a vented bonnet, splitter, rear diffuser and rear spoiler made from carbon fibre reinforced plastic. BMW’s engineers also liberated an extra 9bhp from the twin-turbo straight-six, giving a new total of 454bhp. That’s not far off 100bhp down on the new CS, but who cares – the S55 is a far more pleasing-sounding lump than the newer S58.

Taming that output was a set of sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s for the new forged wheels, although you could have more all-weather friendly Super Sports as a no-cost option. Finally, BMW fiddled with the settings for the adaptive dampers, the various electronic driver aids, the power steering and the electronically controlled locking rear differential.

It would be remiss of us to point out that you only need to spend a little more than this to bag an early G82 M4 Competition - yes, those really have shed that much value already. If it was us, though, we’d probably go F82.
