Car Throttle's F1 Inspired Renault Twizy Becomes Reality
Wind back the clocks exactly 110 days and you'll remember that we dreamed up the F1-inspired Renault Twizy. Today, Renault brings us news of the Twizy Renaultsport F1 concept car. Coincidence? Judging by your positive reaction to our version three months ago, we think not...
Nevertheless, Renault's concept car is a more advanced beast. Features of of the Twizy F1 include a KERS system, which boosts the standard model's 17bhp power figure to a monumental 97bhp for bursts of up to 13 seconds. Further features include massive wings front and back, a Formula Renault 3.5 racer steering wheel and slick tyres. Because of the 30kg KERS sytem (situated where the rear seat would be) the F1 is a one-seater only. Shame.
Thanks to the F1's extra boost, top speed is raised from 50mph to a claimed 68mph, at which point the KERS motor is spinning at 36,000rpm. The dash to 62mph from standing is dealt with in 6.0sec, which matches that of the Renaultsport Megane 265.
Despite tipping the scales at 564kg - some 91kg heavier than its standard brother - the F1 has an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 172bhp per tonne. Granted, that's some way off the Veyron Supersport's 626bhp per tonne figure, but is impressive nonetheless. As a matter of interest, real F1 racers produce 1233bhp per tonne.
So there you have it ladies and gents. One of the most outlandish automotive creations made a reality.
We'll be charging next time, Renault!
