The Cars That Wimbledon Champion Andy Murray Drives

Wimbledon champion Andy Murray isn't much of a car guy, but he's had a few tasty motors in his time

Yesterday, for the first time in 77 years, a Brit’ won the Men’s Singles Trophy at Wimbledon. Andy Murray beat world number one and favourite Novak Djokovic in straight sets to claim the £1.6million prize - with which he could add any number of desirable motors to his garage. But what is he driving now?

After passing his driving test at 21, Murray bought a VW Polo. He almost immediately replaced it with a bright red Ferrari F430 however, for which he reportedly paid around £100,000. But here’s the clincher, it’s thought he paid that again in insurance alone.

Much to the delight of his Dad, who said he didn’t think Murray “should be driving something like that when he'd just passed his test”, the tennis ace sold the 430 in 2010 - after he admitted he was too embarrassed to drive it.

A lifelong James Bond fan, Murray replaced the Ferrari with an Aston Martin DB9. He said the Ferrari made him “feel like a bit of a prat”, whereas the Aston Martin was “more classy”, and solicited better responses from other motorists.

And what about today? After a stint in a Jag XKR (undoubtedly motivated by his sponsorship contract with the carmaker) - Murray has ended up back where he began, in the very same Polo he bought after passing his test. His girlfriend - the lovely Kim Sears - drives the couple’s Porsche Cayenne, but Murray himself prefers the anonymity afforded him by his 30,000 mile-old Polo.

Murray admits the Polo “might need changing”, so what should he get next? We’re thinking F-Type...
