Celebrate Ferrari's Engine Of The Year Win With Glorious Exhaust Noise
Ferrari has done rather nicely for itself at the International Engine of the Year Awards. The firm’s naturally-aspirated V12 won the above 4.0-litre category, while Maranello’s 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 won the 3.0 - 4.0-litre and Performance Engine categories, along with the overall International Engine of the Year prize. Oh, and it’s done all of those for the second year running.
The 3.9-litre engine currently powers the 488 GTB and 488 Spider, where it puts out 661bhp. Meanwhile, a closely related 3.8-litre version can be found in the California T and GTC4Lusso T.
Instead of cracking out the champagne, we thought it’d be more appropriate to celebrate with some lovely exhaust noise. So, posted above you’ll find a noisy video cut from our recent 488 Stelvio pass adventure. Enjoy…

If Enzo Ferrari would have been alive he would have been the happiest man alive!😢
Of Ferrucio was alive, he would still be pissed on Ferrari
Does engine of the year take into account the reliability of engines? (Please don’t be triggered im not saying Ferrari engines are not reliable lol)
I don’t think the turbo V8 sounds good at all.
It sounds like a watered down 458 until it crashes into the really low rev limiter, a Ferrari should scream up high imo :/
Alex Kersten , why!?!? does your camera make all Ferrari red cars look like ORANGE! The taillights still kinda look like red, but the paint :’)

I really do enjoy the filming and crispy quality of the videos, but still.
Ferrari red has to be red and not some red mixed with Lamborghini yellow to some vague Valve orange box color.
Car Throttle can only detect orange.
Yeah it annoys me as well. Anything red turns a dull boring orange.
In the case of the 488, the test car was Rosso Dino not Rosso Corsa/Rosso Scuderia, so it is a more orangey sorta colour.
Because orange is the new rosso corsa 😂
To be honest, I prefer the McLaren V8’s sound. Or for that matter most other V8s (AMG 63, Corvette, M5 etc)
E39. :)
Wow, this article is thin on info. No info on why it was the best engine? No mentioning any tech related to it? Is it a winner just because there is a prancing horse on the inlet?
Did they play around with the sound for a little bit? Not even the 488 GT3 sounds that good.
Crappy video … dude never even winds it out!
Now drift it back down
