Check Out How Much Faster The Tesla Model X's Falcon Wing Doors Open After An Update

Believe it or not, Tesla's latest over-the-air update for the Model X actually makes its fancy 'Falcon Wing' doors open faster by a noticeable margin

While the headline news from Tesla’s latest over-the-air update concerned Autopilot updates, for Model X users it actually included a very practical change. We’re talking about those fancy ‘Falcon Wings’, and while the Model X has come under attack for these incredibly complicated doors, they do at least open and close quicker now post-update.

As demonstrated in the video above, they now open 1.5sec quicker, closing an even more significant 2.2sec faster. You’re looking at a 22 and 26 per cent reduction in operation time respectively, which your average Model X owner will no doubt appreciate if it’s chucking it down with rain when they get back to their car.

Is it just me, that feels a certain eeriness, knowing these sort of cars (Teslas, and ultimately most normal cars in the near future) can change capabilities and attributes with a simple update, as if it was a phone?

Icar Will update when a new car is released, then the old cars get a gradual performance decrease. People will then scrap the 3-4 year old cars because they lost 40% of the power.

I still don’t get the whole car update thing. Knowing my luck, I’d get in, close the door, turn the key and I’ll just get beeping and a message on a screen saying that my car needs an update. Knowing the internet speed where I am, I’d have to leave that updating at home and bring a different car as it will take absolutely ages. No thanks, I’d rather have carburetors, window winders, a cassette player and no air conditioning than a car that will need to download an update every time I go to use it before it’ll work

I don’t think it locks your car until you update. It should be like a phone, where you are just reminded to update.

Still a gimmick for Tesla hype imo. Sliding doors are better.

I wouldn’t want my $120,000 Tesla to have mini van doors lol!

You know what else is pointless? Gullwing and scissor doors. Yet other high end cars have those.
