The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Is Here Early, And It Has 740bhp
That’s an awfully big rear wing, isn’t it? We knew the C7 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 was packing some serious aero thanks to earlier testing footage, but now we can see an entirely undisguised example for the first time…wow.
We’re actually seeing it a little early thanks to an appearance on the front cover of Car and Driver’s December issue, well ahead of the LA Auto Show debut we were expecting. According to Corvette Blogger, it’ll actually be shown first in the metal in Dubai this Saturday, but due to the reveal in the magazine, most of the key details are already out there.
Under that bulged bonnet is an ‘LT5’ 6.2-litre supercharged V8, best thought of as an evolution of the Z06’s LT4. It’s a pushrod engine that puts out 740bhp and 680lb ft of torque - 100bhp and 30lb ft more than the Z06, although it does have an extra 60kg or so of car to propel.
0-60mph happens in under three seconds, a standing quarter-mile is dealt with in under 11 seconds, and it’ll top out at 210mph. Perhaps a more important stat is its lap time at Virginia International Raceway - it lapped the track 2.5 seconds faster than a Z06.
There are several aero packages on offer, with the ‘ZTK’ kit seen on the magazine car generating 226kg of downforce (we’re not sure what speed that’s at yet, though). The rear wing is adjustable by 10 degrees.
It doesn’t have the trick Multimatic dampers used on the Camaro ZL1 1LE, and instead uses GM’s MagRide adaptive suspension system. Carbon ceramic brakes are fitted as standard.
More images and potentially more information should be with us at the weekend. We can’t wait to see more…

Time for Last stand 2
This is a pretty extreme piece of kit. I reckon around a track, it’s faster than an F12 or Aventador.
Well it surely could beat an Aventador due to the fact that It’s RWD and that it’s got instant torque straight out of the corners (thanks to its twin-screw supercharger), but beat an F12? It’s possible but I doubt that. It could easily keep up with it however
Found some lap times at vir
C7 z06 -2.44.6
Camaro Zl1 1le 2.45.7
F12 .2.50.8
Murcielago sv - 2.53.9
458 - 2.49.9
Huracan. 2.47.5
488 - 2.45.1
C7 grand sport - 2.47.1
C6 zr1. 2.50.7
The c7 zr1 apparently lapped vir 2.5 seconds faster than the c7 z06 that puts it at 2.42.1. That’s a whole second faster than the 918 which set a 2.43.1 the fastest car ever at lightning lap at VIR
The c7 zr1 should very very very comfortably anhialate all of these cars.
Even the 450hp grand sport is faster than the f12 .
At laguna seca the c7 z06 set a 1.33.05
The aventador set a 1.35.40
This has happened with Top Gear a few times. They had the “production” spec Valkyrie and full Venom F5 news and specs, both a few days before they came out.
I’ve seen that front bumper somewhere….
i think it looks more like an aventador
I want to see this go under 6:50 on the ring
Chevy goes wild with ZR1 probably because they wanna beat Dodge Viper ACR
“In the metal”, you mean in the fiberglass?
two questions:
does it scare ferraris?
when they say lt5 but they used the same 6.2L V8 formula what makes the engine different?
It’s 2.5 seconds faster than the z06 at vir
The z06 set 2.44.6 at vir
That means the zr1 set a 2.42.1
The 918 set 2.43.1 at vir
The fastest ferrari there is the 488 at 2.45.1 . So yes this is the stuff of nightmares for any ferrari, lamborghini etc
I want to convince my mom to buy this…
That looks so noice, I’m awestruck
