Is Chris Evans Being Lined Up As Jeremy Clarkson's Top Gear Replacement?
Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson is currently in talks with the BBC about renewing his contract, but reports suggest that some bosses are reluctant to see the 54-year-old carry on. Clarkson has come under fire for alleged racist remarks made during filming, and breakfast DJ Chris Evans is rumoured to be a front-runner to replace him.
A source told the Mirror: “Clarkson is undeniably talented, but there is now a small band of BBC executives who believe his knack of getting into trouble has become too big an issue to ignore.
“Chris Evans has shown himself to be just as talented in front of the cameras, and is known for his interest in cars.”
In May this year it was announced Clarkson would sign a new contract within weeks, but final negotiations are still ongoing, leading to speculation.
Chris Evans took to Twitter to deny the rumours:
In the unlikely event that the rumours are true, Evans would be an ideal replacement. He’s appeared on the show a number of times, and has an incredible car collection that includes a £12million 1963 Ferrari 250GTO.
That being said, Top Gear without Clarkson, Hammond or May just wouldn’t really be Top Gear. We’d be very surprised if Clarkson doesn’t sign a new contract.
