Classifieds' Car Of The Day: FWD Hero Honda Integra Type-R

We love our Toyota GT86 long-termer, so we thought we'd look into similar cars on a shoestring budget - and we were tempted away from RWD

Our long-term Toyota GT86 has long since won the office over as an affordable yet fun sports car. But what if you're not in the market for a brand new car, yet want similar thrills for less than £5000? Allow us to tempt you away from rear-wheel drive...

If you're into big thrills on a tight budget, then a Honda Integra Type-R like this could be just the tool. The Teg's 1.8-litre four-pot makes 188bhp (admittedly a little down on our GT86) and 131lb/ft of torque. It'll hit 60mph in 6.7 seconds and, given a long enough road, will top out at 145mph.

And at just 1100kgs, it really is stripped out too - and not in the way most Hondas are (rear seats ripped out and spare tyre chucked by the side of the road). The 'Teg is serious - it gets thinner windscreen glass than standard and most of the sound-deadening has been removed, allowing even more of that 8500rpm charm into the cabin.

This is a genuine UK edition, born in 1998. Since then, it has driven just 78000 miles. It has an MOT until November '14, has had four new tyres fitted and has undergone a respray to make it look as good as new. The owner assures us it "has been maintained to the highest of standards regardless of cost", and with a full service history we're inclined to believe him.

So, if you want some decent fun and can get over the FWD stigma, grab this raspy Honda Integra Type-R. Yours for just £4500.
