Classifieds' Car Of The Day: Scorching Megane Renaultsport R26
If you like the idea of last week's Renault Clio V6 but want something a little less expensive and a little more sensible from the French manufacturer, this is our suggestion: the Megane Renaultsport R26.
To celebrate its F1 team's success in 2005, Renault took the already rather good Megane Cup chassis package and threw on some tasty extras to make this special edition car. Among other things, it received a limited-slip differential, stiffer steering, a sports exhaust and beefier brakes.
The turbocharged 2.0-litre four-pot under the bonnet kicks out a decent 226bhp, enough to send the Megane from 0-60mph in 6.1 seconds, and on to a top speed of 147mph. Sure, there are downsides - Renault reliability can be patchy, and the suspension on these cars can be very firm - but regardless, we think it's a tempting package.
If we've convinced you, give this example a look. It's done just 64,000 miles, has a full service history, and is up for £5,395.
