F1 driver Jenson Button’s future has been a hot topic in recent weeks. He has an option on his current McLaren contract, but has also been linked with a return to Williams. Now a new career path has been thrown into the mix, with rumours that he is in talks with the BBC to co-host Top Gear alongside the previously-announced Chris Evans.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Button is in the running to join the show as one of its presenters, with a source claiming "an announcement is imminent".

Button is friends with Evans, and he appeared on Top Gear twice as a Star in a Reasonably Priced Car before Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May left. However, both the BBC and Button’s spokesperson have refused to comment on the "speculation".

The 2009 F1 champion’s 2015 season has been difficult, to say the least. The McLaren MP4-30 is woefully slow, with an unreliable Honda power unit. However, things did improve at the last race in Hungary, and he finished in ninth, four positions behind his team-mate Fernando Alonso.

Button would certainly be a popular choice to co-host Top Gear, but have people not seen his Santander adverts? Plus, he still seems to be happy racing in F1, and doesn’t appear ready to retire just yet.
