A Custom Car Builder Has Made A Porsche Boxster Shooting Brake
Check out this extremely promising shooting brake custom build based on an early Porsche Boxster. Yes yes, we know it makes less sense than a duck riding a Jet Ski, but we love the idea. Plus, if it had have been based on a Cayman, they would have had to have taken the existing metal roof and pillars off; the Boxster was a cleaner slate with which to start.
The work of van Thull Development of the Netherlands, this unnamed creation seems to have been in the making for a few months, with regular updates on its Instagram page. We have to tip our hats to Pistonheads, too, without which we wouldn’t have seen this.
It comprises a totally bespoke roof design, sloping gently rearwards into a simple boot spoiler and proper C-pillars. The rear side window apertures, as PH points out, look ready to accept 911 glass. The rear bumper and tail lights are from a 991 911, but impressively the three-car-plus-custom-bits jigsaw is less Picasso and more panache.
It has reached a point where the raw bodywork is almost ready for stripping and painting, although the 997-era 911 nose and wings still look a little over-large and wide for the dainty 986 Boxster’s frame. That could potentially be cured in a few different ways so we’ll watch this space.
We expect that this is just a demo project to show what the firm can do. It’s certainly wild enough: a two-seat shooting brake with little or no extra boot space is beyond niche. The heat from the flat-six – either a 2.5-, 2.7- or 3.2-litre, with glorious organic noise to speak of but not always that much power – is likely to be a prohibitive factor for placing luggage.
Still, while van Thull Development may have flown beneath our radar until now, we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this build. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that they take it all the way and sell it to some lucky petrolhead.

I like the idea, but I wonder why they used the front bumper of a 997 GT3. Or why they changed the nose in the first place.
Honestly I’d love the idea of Porsche making an RS3 based hot hatch with AWD, 2 doors and a six cylinder engine
I love it
If you think about it, it’s more or less a Germano-Dutch Clio V6
Porsche eg6 Type-RS
Would have been cooler if they hadn’t made it look like a 911, something it’s not
Definitely got potential, but I can’t unsee Marvin in the rear view of it
Oh look its the new Porsche Boxter turbo 4s sport Turismo e-hybrid!
Looks like a z3 M and a boxster had a child
Reminds me of the “Clown Shoe” M coupe haha
