This Custom Porsche 911 Has A Central Seating Position Just Like A McLaren F1
Modifying cars is a tricky business; it’s easy to get it badly wrong. We thought we’d pretty much seen it all, from the good to the bad and the absolutely freaking horrendous, but this Porsche 911 caught us a little unawares.
Someone (in America, obviously) has taken it upon himself to convert a 997-era 911 into a single-seater. With the driver’s seat and steering wheel in the middle, like a McLaren F1.
Why? No idea. Maybe whoever did it had a fear of being close to windows, or was a masochist and liked making car park ticket machines even harder to deal with. Whatever the reason, here is the result.
The oddball Carrera S Cabriolet is for sale in Georgia, for a listed price of $53,491. Since the main seat – formerly the front passenger seat – has been moved to the middle, the centre console has sidestepped too, along with the PDK gear lever and cup holder.
A custom dashboard section looks to have been made and slotted into the gap at the left-hand side of the sawn-off dashboard. We can’t make our minds up on the small pictures as to whether it looks like a good job or not.
The rear seats are technically still there, although anyone who’s actually tried to sit in one of them for an actual car journey would call the word ‘seat’ generous. But the structural changes the builder has made to the interior means they’re all but useless for anyone bigger than a baby hamster.
For all we know at this point it might be a completely unique animal, but we still don’t really see the benefit unless he’d also stripped it and made it into a track weapon. As the saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
For the eagle-eyed among you, you’ll remember this car’s coupe cousin was listed for sale around a year ago for considerably more money, with an estimate of $85,000 - $115,000 (£54,000 - £73,500). So, if you like the idea of getting a good deal, then here it is!

Is it just me who thinks that more cars should be available with a central seating position?
Either the car would be too wide for the road and would be inconvenient… or have the layout similar to that and be forever alone because you won’t be able to hold hands with your loved ones… ever. (._. )
That’s true. We could import cheap British used cars without worrying about the ‘wrong’ side steering wheel
I remember this. A few years ago, someone in Dubai did exactly the same thing. It’s amazing.
Although I’m not sure of this car’s shifter position lol.
All good and neat, if it wasn a convertible…
This would be a great track weapon…apart from the fact that it’s a flimsy convertible
This is weird, but I like it.
Now the back seats are easily accessible
This person just wants to be the CENTER of attention.
Actually he has turned it from a two-seater into a three seater, so he actually improved its practicality.
And if you want to tell me that a standard 911 can seat four people you haven’t tried to sit in the back of one.
Its actually more practical as you can now carry 3 passengers!
Finally someone found a use for the backseat of a 997.
