The Devon Motorworks GTX Is Official

The much-anticipated GTX from Devon Motorworks (that's actually the correct punctuation) was shown live today at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Along with new pictures (cue the overwhelming applause), Devon has put out a press release now containing all the important information about the car.

Say hello to the "American supercar"! Devon joins the list of American companies like DiMora Motorcar (which I'm going to do a piece on soon) that aim to bring America back into contention in the upper echelons of motoring. To be honest, American brands have been out of the running for a while in high-end luxury and exotic performance circles. Corvette maybe, Ford GT? Other than that, there hasn't been a many.

A lot has been said about the way this car looks, but it's clear the GTX is an unique creation unlike any other. The rear is perhaps my favorite view -  the way this car blends retro and modern themes is amazing. A definite hats off to designer Daniel Paulin.

"We set out to design a vehicle that was quintessentially American, both in its shape and in its performance." says founder Scott Devon. Devon and his team definitely succeeded in doing that. To me, the GTX is an instant future classic. This car could be here at Pebble Beach 2050!

Getting to the all-important performance aspect, it appears the GTX is indeed powered by the V10 in the Dodge Viper. It makes 650 horsepower in this application, up from the 600 horsepower it makes when found in the Viper.

That engine is enough to power the car to record setting times, with the GTX coming in with a 1:35.075 time (just a fraction more than a 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR) at Laguna Seca and 1:26:00 at the Willow Springs Raceway in California. Expect to see a few more attempts at these records to put more distance between the GTX and the modified Viper.

Availability was something I've been wanting to know about the GTX for a long time. Where will it be produced? How much will it cost? How many will they make? Thankfully all those questions have been answered. The GTX will be produced in Southern California, at a price of $500,000 (yep just an even number) with a planned production run of 35 units per year. A racing package of $25,000 will be offered. Very straightforward - it's refreshing!

To me it's amazing that Devon Motor Works has made it this far. On the business end of things, that is a remarkable accomplishment. Devon Motorworks has appeared nearly out of nowhere to produce a polished vehicle with a well-timed introduction (no delays, etc).

Many large companies would wish for that kind of successful launch. Now comes the hard part of day-to-day business. We'll see how it goes, I wish Devon Motorworks the best of success! Hopefully they'll be around producing amazing vehicles like the GTX for years to come.
