Do Car Museums Do It For You?
We’ve already raved about the automotive pornographers that are Pininfarina. With the gorgeous Ferrari F12berlinetta and the sexy 550 Maranello on its CV, Pininfarina have proven that they really know how to wield a pencil. And if it wasn’t for the work of Pininfarina’s pencil-jocks, nine-year-olds around the world wouldn’t drool uncontrollably at the mere mention of the name Ferrari.
Based in the Italian town of Maranello since Hitler was wreaking havoc across Europe, Maranello is now home to “Museo Ferrari" which is stuffed with dozens of the sexiest motors to come out of Ferrari’s factories. And their current exhibition is full of Fezzas penned by Pininfarina’s wizards. But is that enough to get you on a Ryanair flight to the land of pizza, pasta and the Mafia?
This Prancing Horsery includes around 30 Ferraris from one-offs like the weirdly attractive four door Pinin and a Belgian princess’s car to an 80s-tastic Testarossa and a more modern 599 SA Aperta along with some of the Pininfarina family’s private collections. Split into racing cars, road cars and “experimental” concepts, the exhibition is not huge but is big enough to remind you that it really is worth begging, stealing or borrowing the money to buy a tasty Ferrari. My money’s on this one.
In light of this, we want to know: do car museums turn you on, or would you rather spend an afternoon hooning around in your Corsa or sat in front of the F1?
