The Dodge Challenger 'SRT Demon' Is Coming, Because The 707hp Hellcat Is Obviously Underpowered
Power is by far and away the one thing the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat doesn’t need any more of. After all, it does push out 697bhp - or more neatly 707hp - via its oh-so angry supercharged V8. And yet, it seems an even more powerful Challenger is on the horizon.
It’s called the Challenger SRT Demon, and judging by the trailer above with its scary robotic devil thing plus a few words from Dodge big cheese Tim Kuniskis, this thing’s going to usurp the Hellcat in terms of straight-line performance:
“Most cars attempt to be everything to everybody. Then there are the rare few that revel in a single objective, rendering them totally irresistible to a subculture…The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is conceived, designed and engineered for a subculture of enthusiasts who know that a tenth is a car and a half second is your reputation.”
Dodge has released a mini site for the car, giving a countdown for no less than 11 incoming teaser videos (12 including the one you see here), with the last landing on 11 April. The New York Auto Show kicks off on 14 April, so it seems that’s where the car will receive its proper debut.
As Dodge aficionados will tell you, the Demon badge isn’t a new thing. It was used for a performance version of the Dodge Dart back in the 1970s, one of the lesser known muscle cars of the time. It’s likely this new Demon might make more of a mark, however.

That headlight looks a fair bit like the Viper’s with the upper section covered…
GIMME FUEL, GIMMIE FI….. Ih wait… that was already said and anyone else notice James Hetfield from Metallica at the end?
800 hp? 900 hp? A THOUSAND HP????
I wouldnt give it more power but I would go with 666hp and 666ft/lb in an all-wheel drive setup
The way I pictured the meeting at Dodge:
-CEO: What can we do to improve the Challenger?
-Employee: How about give it a new chassis to compete with the Camaro ZL1 and Shelby GT500?
-CEO: No, no. Thats not what the people want.
-Employee: But sir! The Camaro is beating $200,000+ European sports cars around the Nurburgring for a quarter of that price, but with less power than the Hellcat. GM literally can’t make enough of them.
-CEO: Thats it!!! We’ll make a new model with more power than the Hellcat. That’ll show the guys over at Ford and Chevy.
-Employee: Sigh Well can we at least give it a cool name like the ZL1 or the GT500?
-CEO: I got something even better….. The Demon!!!
Hey what if it’s four wheel drive now that Dodge has the architecture to build such a car
This is why I love Dodge. Even after 50 years, they never changed the recipe their customers like and want: obnoxious, overly powerful and super unreliable
This may seem like a bad thing, but it’s really not
I’m guessing it’s AWD With the Hellcat Motor Maybe 750 At The Crank
TBH my only problem with this is the logo. It looks hideous compared to the Hellcat’s logo
Old chassis. Too many horses. I hope Dodge really goes through making the new Challenger on the Giula chassis.
