Driveclub Gets A Hefty Price Cut And New Content
One year ago, the gaming world was watching Driveclub’s massive fail at its over-hyped launch. Multiplayer server errors and missing content turned many potential players away from the start. Now, with another big gaming holiday season approaching, the plan is to lure those lost customers back to the game by slashing the price, adding free weekly content and teasing a major upgrade for October.
Lower Prices
Driveclub is now only $15(£12) on the PlayStation Network, dropping more than half of its original price. The base game includes 13 tracks, 15 cars and 27 PlayStation trophies. Players can create their own races in any weather at anytime of the day of night, and they can snap those gorgeous pictures with the popular Photo Mode. The season pass is now selling for $13(£10). The current season pass includes 32 packs with 38 cars, 176 new events, 80 trophies and 80 liveries. Getting a season pass really expands the game for a better experience.
To keep the excitement going, the studio announced new Sprint mode tracks will be coming each week until Christmas. These tracks are free, and can be instantly downloaded to the game. The Nilgiri Hills, India and Taapaca, Chile tracks were the first two unveiled. We will have 14 more weeks of free tracks until a presumably ‘big surprise’ hits around Christmas. The new tracks are a critical addition to the game, in which the lack of a variety of tracks was causing some lack of enthusiasm.
Major Update
In October, no word on the exact date yet, Evolution will release a game patch to bring the long overdue custom lobbies to the multiplayer mode. Alongside this patch comes enhanced community options. Players should be able to immediately see which of their friends and rivalries are online and what they have been doing recently. Custom races will form much easier now, and players will be able to further tweak their experiences with more difficulty options.
In addition to the new tracks releasing each week, Driveclub will host a Double Fame event every week. Just participate using the featured car (or cars) of the week, and instantly earn double the Fame in your events. It’s an easy way to rack up points for people who aren’t spending all day on Driveclub. The Double Fame events will run until the major update hits in October, and Sony has teased that the events will still run after the update. Evolution has also been teasing fans, saying that more surprises are underway for next year. We have confirmed new Tour packs, but can only speculate on rumours that a new drift pack will be included.
