Drop Everything And Watch The Greatest Series Of Car Adverts Ever Made

Car adverts are rubbish. We can’t remember the last one that really caught our imaginations, which is partly why this series of absolute stunners from Daihatsu have lit our candles. Sure, European car commercials have fancy flashing lights and exotic camerawork to try to get you all excited about the new whatever-it-is, but they’re usually as forgettable as a lunch with a group of dentists.

Cue Daihatsu’s adverts for the Wake, a Japanese Kei car that majors on space and practicality. Starring Anchan, an intrepid ‘engineer’ who keeps ‘adapting’ his car to difficult tasks before being trumped by the Wake and losing his cool over it, the series is produced in tremendous Japanese fight-movie style, with slow-motion face rage, stark cuts, sped-up action and epic facial expressions.

The series of adverts follows Anchan’s ridiculous attempts to beat the Wake, which is owned by his friend and friend’s other half, while Anchan himself is accompanied by his long-suffering girlfriend.

There’s plenty of shouting, some absolutely class acting performances and, above all, a set of car adverts that are better than anything we’ve seen in the UK or US for as long as we can remember. Take five minutes, sit back and enjoy Anchan’s emotional journey.
