An Electrified Jaguar F-Type Is Coming

Jaguar has confirmed that the current F-Type will be replaced with a new sports car, and that when it happens, one version will be built with either a hybrid or full-electric drivetrain
An Electrified Jaguar F-Type Is Coming

According to Jaguar’s senior staff, the F-Type sports car isn’t going to halt its growing vegetarian tendencies with the four-cylinder version. We’re in for a hybrid model as well – or possibly even a full-electric one. We might need to sit down.

The stunning coupe is one of the prettiest cars on sale, and it’s hardly ugly with the roof chopped off, either. But those furious, primal, naughty noises from the V6 and V8 cars could be replaced with (remember to breathe) the soft, nondescript whine of an electric motor or two.

An Electrified Jaguar F-Type Is Coming

In line with Jaguar’s aim to electrify all the things as soon as it can, Jaguar’s North American CEO, Joe Eberhardt, confirmed that any future Jaguar sports car would have an electrified model. It could be an EV, it could be a full or plug-in hybrid, or it could just be the cheat’s hybrid; the so-called mild hybrid that only uses a motor to cut and restart the engine at low speeds.

Ian Callum, the company’s head of design, confirmed that a replacement for the F-Type will arrive sooner or later. He told Automotive News that:

“We are going to do another range of sports cars eventually. There are a number of people in the world who think sports cars are finished because SUVs can get around a corner as quick as a sports car can, technology being what it is.

“But there is something very emotional about a sports car that conveys the ultimate in the sense of performance and design.”

I glad that so many manufacturers are still acknowledging the emotions within cars and not just building appliances.

Nothing wrong with an electric version. The petrol ones will still exist thankfully.

F-Type without the engine sound is like kissing your own sister. It feels alright, but somehow it’s wrong.
