Elton John's Old Aston Martin V8 Vantage Is Less Expensive Than You'd Think
The Vantage of the 1990s represented the peak of Aston Martin’s butch era. Produced at the same time as the DB7 - a car which showed the styling direction Aston was heading in - the Vangtage had no time for the swoopy, curvaceousness of its sibling. Instead, it looked like it wanted to punch the nearest Ferrari right in the face.
It wasn’t made it great numbers though - while thousands of DB7s rolled off the production line in Bloxham, Aston put together just 280 of these V8 bruisers in Newport Pagnell. As such, they’re rather hard to come by, and tend to be very expensive when they do crop up: the only one currently for sale on Autotrader is a cool £265,000.
However, we have seen one that’s set to go a bit cheaper than that, despite having a celebrity connection: the 1997 example you see here was once owned by a certain musician called Elton John. And neither he nor the car’s other keepers drove it that much - in its two and a bit decades on Planet Earth, it’s covered just 8663 miles.
Under the bonnet you’ll find a 5.3-litre V8, supplemented by two superchargers. It’s good for 550bhp, making 0-60mph possible in under five seconds. Enough performance to make you feel like a proper rocket man, we’d say.
Interested? It’ll go to whoever’s still standing when it goes under the hammer at Silverstone Auctions’ Race Retro Classic Car Sale in Warwickshire on 24 and 25 February. The lower estimate is ‘just’ £190,000, but we have a feeling it’ll finish much closer to the upper figure of £240,000.
