Extreme DIY: Hungarian Farmer Builds And Drives Car Made From Wood

From rearing sheep to crafting a wooden rear axle, all in just four months...

Woody Car

During the winter months, it's not uncommon to find the majority of us Brits lounging around indoors, moaning about the weather. Istvan Puskas, however, uses this time to get creative. An agricultural worker, Puskas used his winter break from farm work this year to design and build a car made entirely from wood.

"I love to work with wood," says Puskas, and encouraged by his wife who goes by the name Iron, he started work on this unique vehicle. The engine is from a Fiat 126 and the steering wheel from a Mercedes, however Puskas was determined to make as much of the car as possible from wood, including the suspension and gearbox.

The car cannot be officially registered, but laid back local Police allow Puskas to drive his creation on local lanes near his house. Not for much longer, though, as the car is up for sale. It is being sold to fund another project Puskas has in mind - a three-wheeled car.

With his wood carving skills and penchant for three-wheeled motoring, we reckon there could be a job at Morgan on the horizon...
