Fast And Furious 9 Release Delayed By A Year
The ninth film in the Fast and Furious series was supposed to be out on 19 April 2019, but as revealed by the franchise’s official Instagram account this week, it’s been pushed back by almost a year.
The magic date is 10 April 2020 - the Easter weekend of that year. The date change presumably means the tenth and final film in the ‘saga’ - originally slated for a 2 April 2021 release - will also be shunted back a year.
The reason for the move? Universal Studios hasn’t yet said. Perhaps the writers need more time to come up with something to exceed the ridiculousness of F8’s hilariously bombastic submarine scene, but we’re thinking it could down to creating a neat gap for the rumoured Hobbs/Shaw spin-off.
Yep, Dwayne Johnson’s Diplomatic Security Service agent is allegedly going to team up with the assassin an all-round sociopath played by Jason Statham. As with with most recent F&F films, some serious suspension of disbelief will be needed with that one.
Does the F9 delay bother you? Do you still enjoy these flicks even though they’ve long since departed the street racing basis of the first few installments? Give us your thoughts in the comments below.
