Porsche shoves bigger turbos in its flagship barge

The Porsche Panamera Turbo S gets a 50 horsepower boost thanks to uprated turbos. The 570hp saloon is capable of 192mph and is priced from £131,049.

The turbos have larger compressors fitted to increase the flow of air and allow more air to be squeezed into the combustion chambers at full chat. Injection pressure has also been increased to help achieve maximum bang. To compensate for the increased stresses these improvements place on the engine, Porsche has fitted pistons made from a new aluminium alloy and specially coated piston rings.

To make the most of all that power, the Turbo S features an improved PDK transmission. A 'reworked shifting strategy' helps to change gears more rapidly, contributing to a 0 to 62 mph time of 3.8 seconds. Fit the optional sports exhaust and the S will filter the sound of that angry V8 directly into the interior.

Top of the list of things that are quite interesting but we don't really care about is the fact that all this improved tech doesn't just improve performance, it also improves efficiency. Despite the extra horses the S's fuel consumption figures are 27.7mpg - the same as the Turbo.

The Turbo S also gets a few aesthetic improvements. Bigger, wider wheels are fitted as standard - 20-inch 911 Turbo II wheels differentiate you from lesser models - while you can also tick the exclusive 'Palladium' paint colour for added exclusivity.

The Porsche Panamera Turbo S is a super-powered luxury barge that can be yours from January 2014.
