Feast Your Eyes On The First Production Tesla Model 3
Here it is: the very first production Model 3. Serial number 1 had its final checks at the weekend, with CEO Elon Musk tweeting a couple of pictures of the car outside Tesla’s factory in Freemont, California. It’s also been caught on video, giving us an even closer look.
Musk said last week that production would grow “exponentially,” with the first 30 cars handed over to owners in July, 100 cars built in August, and 1500 produced in September.
By December, Tesla intends to be making 20,000 cars a month. But even if the firm stays on target, it’s going to take a while to clear the backlog: 500,000 people have put down a deposit for the car.
The Model 3 will do 0-60mph in 5.6 seconds, and have a single digital display as opposed to the pair you’ll find on the Model S. The range will be 215 miles, and Model 3 owners will have to pay for supercharger access. There are also less customisation options available than on the Model S and X, with the aim of minimising delays and clearing the order queue a little quicker.
