Fernando Alonso Will Miss The Australian GP After His Testing Concussion

McLaren has confirmed that Fernando Alonso will not compete in the F1 2015 season opener in Australia. The Spaniard crashed on the final day of the second pre-season test in Barcelona, suffering a concussion. He remained in hospital for three days for checks but was uninjured.

Alonso missed the final test and it has now been announced - following advice and recommendations from doctors - that he will not drive in Australia.

The whole situation was handled very strangely by McLaren, with little information revealed initially leading to wild speculation. The team says he was concussed, but Ron Dennis recently claimed he was not. No footage has emerged of the crash and there are varying reports of what happened from witnesses. Meanwhile, tests and scans reveal Alonso is okay, yet he has still been forced to sit out of the first race…

After analysing data, the team said that the crash was caused by unpredictably strong winds and not by car failure, with Alonso’s injuries sustained by hitting his head on both sides of the cockpit. They also dismissed some wild claims in the media that he was “rendered unconscious by an electrical fault”.

Alonso will be replaced in Australia by reserve driver Kevin Magnussen, who raced for McLaren last year and stood in for the Spaniard during the final pre-season test.
