The LaFerrari Successor Is Hiding Under This Red Cover

…and we have less than 24 hours before we get to see it. Ready for the next entry into Ferrari’s line of halo cars?

F40. F50. Enzo. LaFerrari. We’ve been waiting a long time for the next car to join that exclusive lineage, but the wait is very nearly over – we’ll get to see Ferrari’s LaFerrari successor tomorrow, 17 October.

In the meantime, Ferrari’s whetting our appetites with this little teaser video, showing the new hypercar beneath a lovely red car cover. Obviously, it doesn’t give a whole lot away, but there are some things we can glean between this and the spy photos we’ve seen of the disguised car testing.

Most notably, it’s got a sizeable rear wing, something Ferrari has traditionally shied away from on its road cars, only really going all in on big visible downforce devices with the recent SF90 XX Stradale.

The spy shots also give us glimpses at other aggressive elements, including a big front splitter and a fairly serious duct in the bonnet. The details of the styling, though, are still very much under wraps, as are things like its name.

As for the powertrain, we can be fairly certain it’ll be a hybrid of some sort, but whether it’ll be a plug-in or use some other arrangement isn’t known. There are various combustion engines it could use, too, with different rumours hinting at versions of the 296’s 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6, the 12Cilindri’s nat-asp V12, or the twin-turbo V8 that underpins the bulk of the rest of the Ferrari range.

All this will be answered tomorrow, just a couple of weeks after we saw the McLaren W1, likely to be this car’s biggest rival. It means that within October, we’ll have been treated to successors to two of 2013’s ‘Holy Trinity’ of hypercars, the McLaren P1, LaFerrari and Porsche 918. Don’t get too excited about the set being completed, though – we’re likely still a little ways off from seeing Porsche’s next halo car. Still, two out of three ain’t bad, right?
