This Ford 'Old Crow' Mustang Pays Homage To A Legendary P-51 Pilot

Ford and Roush have worked together to create a 700bhp Mustang in honour of USAF pilot Col. Bud Anderson

Col. Bud Anderson has quite the CV. A World War II veteran and triple ace pilot, he’s credited with 16 aerial victories and flew 116 combat missions in his P-51 Mustang. The highly decorated officer, who retired in 1972, wasn’t once hit by enemy fire during his career.

Ford and Roush decided to honour the man by modifying, you guessed it, a Mustang GT. It’s liveried up just like Anderson’s ‘Old Crow’ P-51, which was originally named after a brand of whiskey.

It’s sporting a P-51 Mustang badge on its custom Rousch grille, an Eighth Air Force emblem on the decklid, and it has ‘Old Crow’ lettering splashed across either side of the bonnet.

Other aesthetic treatments include a Ford Performance front splitter, a rear wing from the 2020 Shelby GT500, custom bonnet vents and blue “rainbow-tinted” exhaust tips. The latter touch is intended to echo the look of the P-51’s exhaust outlets.

The interior has been transformed too, with additions such as military green leather and fabric, a red gear knob and red door handles. Because warplane.

Under the vented bonnet, you’ll find the usual Ford Coyote 5.0-litre V8, with plenty of extra go courtesy of a Roush Performance TVS R2650 supercharger, an uprated induction system and a custom exhaust. Now, it’s good for 700bhp and 610lb ft of torque.

It is - understandably - a one-off, but there will be a chance to buy it. The Old Crow Mustang is going under the hammer on July 25 at the AirVenture show in Wisconsin, held by the Experimental Aircraft Association. The cash raised will go to various programmes run by the organisation.

I love the fact that it has the go fast the match the looks. I hate it when companies (coughBugatti, Ferrari, Lamborghinicough) make special editions that arent really special beyond looking disfunctionally stylish.

That is what I love about the US, they honor their veterans, and I really wish this gets adopted in India as well.

I respect Wing Commander Abhinandan, a Nano themed on him would be a travesty.

The AirVenture airshow is one hell of an experience. I went 2 years ago when Roush had their other P-51 car. If you have any interest in aviation whatsoever, it is a must see.
