This Ford Performance Supercharger Will Boost Your New Mustang To 800bhp
It’s barely fresh off the production line, but owners of the seventh-generation Ford Mustang can now boost their new pony car to ‘at least’ 800bhp with a supercharger kit sold directly from the manufacturer.
Ford Performance has worked on a package that takes the S650 GT’s 5.0-litre Coyote V8 from 480bhp to a figure that’s 300bhp more than the range-topping Dark Horse - and in the ballpark of the limited-run, hardcore GTD.
Central to the upgrade is a 3.0-litre Whipple twin-screw supercharger, with a whole host of supporting upgrades - including an oversized heat exchanger plus a high flow intercooler pump, a 92mm throttle body and a 120mm dual air intake setup. It works with both the 10-speed automatic and six-speed manual gearboxes.
Being a Ford Performance product, the kit doesn’t alter the existing Mustang’s warranty - and comes with its own three-year, 36,000-mile coverage. Those in California will be happy to know it meets the strict CARB requirement when installed by a Ford dealer.
Alternatively, you can buy the kit pre-installed from the dealer as part of the FP800S package. On top of the extra power, this includes a half-shaft upgrade kit as well as a lowered suspension. You can choose carbon aero elements and a Borla Extreme cat-back exhaust, too.
Michael Goodwin, product manager at Ford Performance, said: “The Ford Performance supercharger kit means more power and more excitement for Mustang owners. With at least 800 horsepower, this Ford Performance option takes the already-powerful Ford Mustang GT to an extreme level that should satisfy even the most demanding driver.”
No word yet on how much the kit will cost, but it’ll go on sale early in 2024. Don’t fret if you’ve just taken the keys to a new Mustang Dark Horse, though. The American manufacturer’s performance division is working on a kit designed especially for it, so expect power to rise even further.
