Ford's Snarling 500bhp+ Mustang GT350 Is Here
OK, so we still don’t know exactly how much power it’s packing, but at last we can see the Ford Mustang GT350 in all its glory. As we’d been expecting, it’s packing a 5.2-litre flat-plane crank V8 producing over 500bhp and 400lb ft of torque, and it’ll the most powerful naturally-aspirated production V8 Ford has ever made. And just listen to it.
That power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox and a Torsen limited-slip differential. And as this is intended to be the track-friendly ‘Stang, Ford has given the Pony a jolly good fettle underneath. Compared to the Mustang GT, the track is wider, the ride height lower, and the spring rates re-calibrated.
The dampers are clever ‘MagneRide’ adjustable jobbies, too, featuring hydraulic fluid laced with magnetic particles. When an electric current is passed through, it stiffens up the shock. Sure, the VW Group has been using this tech for years, but the fact that it’s on this Mustang shows how serious Ford is about the GT350’s handling.
Bringing things to a stop are 394mm discs and six-piston callipers at the front, with 380mm discs and four-piston callipers at the rear. Slotting over those brakes are a set of 19-inch alloy wheels, which are wrapped in super-sticky Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber.
On the inside you get a pair of hip-hugging Recaro seats, and if you want to retain a sense of luxury the optional ‘Tech Pack’ will give you leather electric chairs, dual-zone climate control, and an upgraded audio systems among other bits of kit. Go for the ‘Track Pack’, and you get an engine oil cooler and a transmission cooler, which will be useful when giving the 350 proper circuit abuse.
Sound tempting? There’s still no word on price, but this will no doubt be revealed closer to the car going on sale. It’ll be available for the 2016 model year.
