This Formula E Driver Tested Positive For Cocaine Straight After A Race

Ex-F1 driver Franck Montagny has admitted to testing positive for a derivative of cocaine after the second round of the FIA Formula E 2014/2015 season in Malaysia last November.

The French driver fears for his motorsport career, having been suspended from competition until sanctions are handed down by the FIA. He withdrew from the most recent ePrix in Uruguay, saying at the time it was due to illness.

Montagny raced in seven F1 races for backmarkers Super Aguri in 2006, and has since competed in sports cars, endurance racing and IndyCar. Driving for Andretti Autosport, he finished second in the first ever Formula E race in Beijing last September.

He told French paper L’Equipe:

“Auto sport is perhaps over for me. After the event I saw the guy who tests signalling me. There, in my head, I knew immediately. I knew it was over. I made a mistake, I’m guilty.”

Andretti Autosport will likely run former Toro Rosso F1 driver Jean-Eric Vergne and Matthew Brabham, grandson of legendary three-time Formula 1 champion Sir Jack Brabham, at the next Formula E round in Argentina later this month.
