Formula E Has Landed: Here's All You Need To Know About The FIA's Electric Race Series
Formula E has released a new promotional video for the all-electric series, with several Spark-Renault cars taking to the streets of London for a public demonstration. The above video was posted on the same day as the global series launch, which took place in London. Plenty of new details on the series were announced, including three drivers.
The newly-renamed e.Dams Renault team - co-founded by four-time F1 champion Alain Prost - announced its drivers for the inaugural 2014/2015 season. Sebastien Buemi and Nicolas Prost (son of Alain) will race for the team. Meanwhile TrulliGP - owned by former F1 driver Jarno Trulli, who will race for his own team - completed its line-up with Italian driver Michela Cerruti. She becomes the second female racer to join the Formula E grid.
Meanwhile, BMW has been announced as the official vehicle supplier of the series. The German manufacturer will provide Formula E with course, medical and VIP cars, which will - of course - be all-electric. Two of the vehicles - the i3 and i8 - were unveiled at the launch.
The interactive and slightly daft Fan Boost feature was officially launched, with tweaks being made. Instead of the most popular driver getting a power boost for the final lap, the top three will do so.
The series has teamed up with the Greenpower Education Trust, with 10 local schools competing to design and build their own electric car that will then race at five of the 10 tracks on the calendar.
The biggest news of the night was the announcement of Battersea Park as the location for the inaugural season finale. The London ePrix will take place on the 27th June 2015 and more details will be announced at a later date.
