Frankfurt 2011: Volvo "Concept You"

Volvo is one of our most-loved manufacturers here at Car Throttle, and thus is comes as no surprise to us to find out that the Swedish marque is the fastest growing brand in the USA.

Volvo is one of our most-loved manufacturers here at Car Throttle, and thus is comes as no surprise to us to find out that the Swedish marque is the fastest growing brand in the USA. Sales are up 21% in the first eight months of the year and Stefan Jacoby is extremely confident about where he sees Volvo heading.

One market which Volvo have yet to dominate is the high-end saloon segment usually covered by the likes of BMW, Audi and Mercedes. The current S80 tries to compete but unfortunately doesn't have the right backing or history behind it to make it a big contender. This is where things stop and the new Volvo enters the room. At Frankfurt, Volvo unveiled their "Concept You" which is a further adaptation on the previously seen "Concept Universe" and showcases a new luxury, premium vehicle.

There are hints of Jaguar here and the rear sees some A7 thrown in for good measure. Make no qualms about it, this Volvo is pleasing on the eye and inside it's a treat too. Customers will be treated to a suicide door entry and a plethora of materials including wood, suede and leather. Touch-screen technology is used throughout the car and interestingly passengers will be able to see information previously only available to the driver. What a fab idea.

Power will come from a fully electrified unit plus for extra oomph, Volvo will place a KERS-style system which can generate an extra 80bhp. Who knows when or even if this "Concept You" will ever reach production, but chances are it will form the basis on which Volvo intends to drive the brand, and for that reason, I'm extremely bullish on their future.
