According to most, this was the most anticipated and important concept car launch at Frankfurt 2011 IAA. The Ford Evos Concept has been circulated around the globe numerous times thanks to its branching design principles that have the potential to catapult Ford into the next decade with severe force and popularity. So it was no surprise then that the Hall at the time of the Ford launch was rammed full of journalists. As a result, we struggled to get completely "people-free" images but suffice to say that you can determine exactly what the Evos is about.

A four-door coupe, the Ford Evos unusually has gullwing doors which renders it a little crazy. Short for "Evolution", this concept aims to show the potential for Ford's future over the coming months and years. Hints of this car can apparently be seen in the Ford B-Max mini MPV set to hit the showroom floors in 4 months' time.

Around the front, the Evos has smaller front and rear lights and a grille mounted higher up the nose for a more upmarket look. This intends to appeal to traditional buyers of sedan vehicles who want sportiness and technological prowess added to the usual list of safety, comfort and durability.

What is impressive is the fact that all the mod-cons, technology and exterior style cues are already in testing at Ford who aim to fit the prototype shells and ideas onto future vehicles. Some have drawn a conclusion that the Evos is in anticipation of the new Capri to be launched, but Ford has denied this rumour.

Unfortunately the striking image of the rising gullwing doors may just be left to the realms of fantasy after it emerged at the press conference yesterday that Ford doesn't plan to fit these futuristic openings to "coming soon" models; in fact they may never surface at all. Which is a shame, because if there's one manufacturer that should be looking to push the boundaries and have been in the process of doing so with the high-tech Focus, it's Ford. Kudos to them for a dreamy concept car.
