A Free Fast and Furious Forza Game Is On The Way
Xbox just announced the latest expansion to the Forza series with Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast and Furious. The game will be available to download free from 27 March – 10 April, adding to the anticipation of Furious 7’s release. If you download it during those two weeks, the game is yours to keep for free. However, after the 10th of April, the game will go for sale in the Xbox store for $10 in the US. It doesn’t matter whether or not you own Forza Horizon 2, the new edition runs on its own. All you need is either an Xbox One or an Xbox 360.
Universal Pictures and Turn 10 Studios have been talking about the possibility of doing a Fast and Furious version of the game for years, so it’s great to see it finally happen. Game developers were given access not just to the designs, but to some of the actual cars used in the movies to accurately recreate even the smallest details. VP of Partnerships and Licensing at Universal Pictures, Bill Kispert, says:
“Furious 7 is the latest instalment in our enormously successful franchise, and partnering with the world-class team at Turn 10 Studios offered an exceptional opportunity to thank our fans in an exciting way…We can’t think of a better combination for gamers and movie fans alike.”
Players will be guided by the voice of Ludacris, as Tej Parker, as they complete challenges through the south of France. As the challenges are complete, players will be receive new cars for their Forza collection that can be driven in the free roam open world setting. Over eleven new cars have been confirmed, but only these eight Fast and Furious Edition rides have been named:
- 1970 Dodge Charger R/T
- 2012 Nissan GT-R
- 1998 Toyota Supra
- 2014 Maserati Ghibli S
- 1970 Plymouth Road Runner
- 2015 Dodge Charger R/T
- 1970 Plymouth Cuda
- 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Alan Hartman, the studio head at Turn 10, assured players that this would be no low-grade spin-off. The game has been in the works for a long time, and now everything has fallen into place. He says:
“When we started talking about this with Universal years ago, it was really about bringing both of our franchise’s strengths to the table. We’re building on top of everything we’ve done over the last decade…I hope what we’re doing here is a model for what we do in the future. It’s been a great relationship, and I don’t want to end it after this, so we’ll see what’s possible in the future.”
It’s not often that Xbox gives you something like this (or anything) for free, so mark your calendars now. In the meantime, get hyped with this Furious 7 trailer and tell us your hopes and fears for the upcoming game.
