Furious 7 Just Made $1 Billion Faster Than Any Other Movie In Cinema History
If you haven’t seen Furious 7 yet, it would appear you’re in the minority. In its opening weekend, the movie made $147.1 million (£98.6m), and then it took just 17 days to break through $1 billion (£670m). That means it has smashed the record for hitting that astronomical figure by two days; the 19 days record was held jointly between The Avengers, Avatar, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.
What makes this all the more incredible is the fact that, unlike those three movies, Furious 7 was not shown in 3D; ticket prices are higher for films with an extra dimension, putting Dom and co. at a disadvantage.
F&F’s seventh instalment is only the 20th Hollywood movie to break through the billion dollar mark, and is the first film distributed by Universal to hit that figure in its initial theatrical release. It should be noted that its release was cleverly timed to avoid any other big hitters, however the intrigue surrounding how the team would incorporate Walker into the film, as well as any tribute scenes, no doubt helped the figure.
Furious 7 will almost certainly be the highest grossing film of 2015, with the only question remaining just how high up the all-time earners it can climb. On this showing, you can see why the money men are desperate for Furious 8…
