The Gallardo FL2 GT3 Is A Bigger, Badder Lambo That Proves There's Life In The Old Bull Yet
Ever since the Lamborghini Huracan burst onto the scene, the Gallardo has dropped into the shadow of its successor. That’s all set to change, however, as Lambo’s official Gallardo GT3 partner, Reiter Engineering, has thrust the old bull back into the limelight with the FL2 GT3, a comprehensively facelifted version of the Gallardo race car.
So what’s new? For starters, the new Gallardo GT3 has a bigger booty. The rear end is wider, with a whopping 13cm increase to the rear axle width, which will aid handling; the car now hits the maximum width allowed by the regulations.
Continuing with the backside upgrades, the aluminium rear side panels have been replaced with carbonfibre equivalents. The rear lights are also new, as are the headlights.
The engine hasn’t escaped Reiter’s uprating process either, receiving racing camshafts for an improved torque curve, while new Mahle pistons make the FL2 less thirsty while improving reliability.
Reiter’s plan is to improve the already impressive reliability in its engines (since 2012, no Gallardo GT3 engine has failed), while also adding emotion. The wider stance and more aggressive styling help achieve this.
So why buy a facelifted Gallardo over a brand new model of race car? Simply put, Reiter reckons its ‘evolution over revolution’ approach to improving its cars ensures that it ekes every ounce of performance from its cars, ensuring even the ‘old’ models are super competitive.
Whether this turns out to be the case remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure, the Gallardo FL2 GT3 will be one of the most aggressively-styled cars on the grid. Want one? Chuck €248,000 (£197,000) at Reiter Engineering and it’s yours.
