Get A Load Of Nissan's Front-Engined GT-R LM Nismo Race Car
While it may not be as odd as the company’s Zeod RC, this new Nissan Le Mans contender - revealed in render form via Black Flag - is rather bizarre. Why, exactly? Because judging by that long snout, it has an engine in the front.
LMP1 ‘prototype’ racers like the Porsche 919 and Toyota TS040 are all mid-engined. In fact, there hasn’t been a front-engined LMP1 machine for over 10 years, which isn’t surprising when conventional wisdom suggests a mid-engine layout is a better bet for balance. This is a car the motorsport world will watch with interest, there’s no doubt about that.
There’s nothing concrete regarding what exactly will be nestling under that elongated front end, but a hybrid powertrain seems highly likely. We’ll know more when the car makes its proper debut at next year’s Super Bowl.
