Get Your Gaming Thrills With The Crew's New Extreme DLC
It’s no surprise that all of the big racing games released last year are spending a good part of 2015 competing with each other by stepping up their DLC. The Crew kicked off its new Extreme downloads recently to satisfy cravings for stunts and drift action. For some, it hit a sweet spot, but for others the new content fell flat.
The first piece of The Crew’s new content is a pack of three new cars: the Aston Martin V12 Zagato, the 2013 SRT Viper GTS and the Abarth 500. Of course, the collection is not complete without adding hundreds of customisation options into the in-game store. The new additions have people on both sides of the fence arguing. Fans of the new pack are in love with the intense speed and power of the new cars. Critics are saying “Yes, the new cars are bad-ass, but when are we going to see some JDM cars?” I agree. I want to see a little JDM love, but only one of the new missions is really about drifting so we can wait.
Players with The Crew Season Pass will be able to download the new cars free of charge. Everyone else can purchase the individual pack without committing to the Season Pass. The Extreme Live Update, however, is free for everyone. The new content features four ‘extreme’ missions that Ubisoft hopes will entice more thrill seeking players to jump on board. They’ve also created some unlockable content, new tuning specs and more unnecessary stickers.
Here is a run down of the four new missions:
Vertigo - You will run a hill climb on a dirt road overlooking the Colorado River, then head back down the other side. Finish higher on the leader board to score more points. If you’re an avid DiRT fan, you will cringe at the unworthiness of the wide road and moderate (at best) turns.
Rollercoaster - Take a very bumpy ride racing on the grass through a wooded forest. Catch air going fast over the hills while dodging trees, bushes and the occasional deer. This mission is risky with all its obstacles, but so much fun!
Slip and Slide - Here goes The Crew’s attempt at a drift battle. It’s not half as bad as I was imagining (keep in mind I set pretty low expectations). Slide around the corners of a twisting road through a little mountain town and a long tunnel. The snow and ice may look challenging, but it’s a relatively easy mission to master.
Hurricane - Race a quick three laps through a construction site at an air power plant. The course is short, but the constant turns back and forth will keep you attentive. Blind jumps leading into sudden turns and rough landings throw a bit of a challenge into the race.
Any CT gamers had a chance to play the new content yet? What do you think, a good addition to spice it up or a lame attempt at ‘extreme’ racing?
