The year 2016 is coming to its end. For that reason, google has decided to share its results for the 10 most searched for automakers of 2016.
10. Rolls Royce
This German-owned British luxury manufacturer’s popularity may have been a result of the upcoming models such as their SUV – The Cullinan. However, the most searched for model was actually the Phantom, the company’s flagship.
9. Maserati
Much for the same reason as the Rolls Royce, we can only assume its partally thanks to a new upcoming SUV – The Levante. Maserati may only sell four models but it didn’t stop it from being so popular. Unlike the Rolls Royce, however, the most searched for model was actually the SUV.
8. Bentley
Spotting the trend yet? European luxury manafacturers with upcoming SUVs were popular this year. Bentley joined the list thanks to an upcoming crossover SUV, the Bentayga.
7. Jaguar
Number 7 on google’s list is Jaguar. No surprise why – European luxury manufacturer with yet another SUV, the F-Pace. However, the most searched model appeared to be the XF instead.
6. Ford
Ford, this year, is number 6 on list. The world-wide manufacturer’s top searched model is actually the European Ford Focus. Focus, being one of the best-selling cars of ford (selling 223,588 cars in North America alone in 2015) is the most searched for model.
5. Volvo
Swedish car maker Volvo sales are on the rise with more and more models hitting the street. The luxury manufacturer’s most searched for model is, you guessed it, its SUV – the XC90.
4. Lamborghini
Lamborghini may sell the least, on the list, but it didn’t stop it from being number 4 on the list. With just a count of 2 models (Huracan and Aventador), its rather surprising that Lamborghini made it into the list – despite that, there are a number of models like the Veneno, Sesto Elemento, centenario and so on which catch a lot of attention.
3. Tesla
Like the Lamborghini, there are only 2 models being sold. However, the technologically advanced manufacturer, which includes autopilot to its cars, makes a lot of attention. 2016 has been a great year for Tesla and were looking forward to its upcoming Model 3, which was the company’s most searched for model.
2. Mercedes Benz
Runner up on this list, Mercedes, had launched astonishing cars this year, including the AMG GT convertible and AMG GT R, both caught a lot of attention among enthusiasts. Despite that, the most searched model was the brand new C300.
1. Honda
Number 1 on the list, is the Japanese automaker Honda. The most searched for car of 2016 was Honda’s flagship, the Civic, which caught the most attention among internet users.
2016 was a great year for the auto industry, with great cars coming to production and breathtaking concepts we’d wish would reach public roads. Were you surprised by the list? Let us know in the comments!
Wish you all happy new year!

I’m surprised McLaren didn’t feature on this list, given that they’ve grown so rapidly (in my opinion until the Urus arrives, they’re a bigger force than Lamborghini). Pity that they’re mostly luxury manufacturers - seems sad that more people aren’t searching for sports car rumours like the RX-9 and Supra
immediately googles Koenigsegg about a million times
It isn’t on the list, because people fail to spell the name Koenisggsegsseg.
Surprised to see that Volkswagen didn’t make the list after their Dieselgate. Would have expected many people to search the manufacturer for news items.
how is the Civic supposed to be Honda’s flagship? Do you even know what that phrase means? It would be the NSX
Ferrari not in the top 10?????
Ferrari is what you buy when you want to be famous Lamborghini is what you buy when you are famous
Where is the BMW?!!!!!!
GoogleTec kicked in yo
VTEC can smoke everything
Im surprised Volkswagen isn’t on the list. People are still making a huge deal about the emissions scandal and the buy back program.
Looks like a lot of people already commented the same thing lol
I’m building that civic currently and even I didn’t search for it…
