Grand Theft Auto VI: Everything Confirmed So Far
Finally, after years of speculation, leaks, rumours and general shots in the dark, Rockstar Games has officially revealed Grand Theft Auto VI.
The eighth mainline entry to the GTA series will be the first since the release (and twice re-release) of GTA V back in 2013. Here’s everything officially confirmed so far.
GTA VI trailer
The trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI emerged on 4 December, 15 hours early in response to a leak. It quickly earned the title of YouTube's biggest-ever non-music video launch, racking up 93 million views in a mere 24 hours. A week on, the trailer had over 10 million likes and was closing in on 150 million views, which gives us some idea of just how enormously popular the game will be upon release.
The trailer's most replayed moment was at the 35-second mark, at which point we see a mystery bikini-clad woman by a rooftop swimming pool. We'll try to act surprised. There's been some speculation, including on some rather in-depth Reddit posts, that 'GTA VI bikini girl' (below) is actually the main character Lucia (more on her shortly), but we remain unconvinced.
GTA VI location and story
Rockstar has created Leonida - a fictitious state that’s set to be a caricature of Florida. Central to that will be a return to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City, albeit a completely expanded version compared with the 2002 original.
Beyond that, VI looks to include a faithful recreation of the Everglade swamplands and an archipelago stretching into the Atlantic Ocean. If the trailer is much to go by, we’re in for some iconic ‘Florida Man’ moments.
In a first for GTA, one of the main protagonists will be female. Lucia is an ex-con who looks to have gotten mixed back up in a life of crime following her release from prison, teaming up with her yet-named partner in a Bonnie and Clyde-esque affair. Both characters are expected to be playable, similar to the trio of Michael, Franklin and Trevor in GTA V.
GTA VI confirmed car list
As with any good GTA, VI looks packed with double-take, copyright-bending versions of all kinds of real-world cars. Recent additions to GTA Online have continuously towed that line, and it looks like VI will do more of the same.
With just the one trailer and so few details shared by Rockstar Games to date, we only have official confirmation on a small number of hopefully a huge list of cars coming to the game:

GTA VI release date
Despite the first trailer arriving just in time for Christmas 2023, we’ll have to hold out a little longer for GTA VI. For now, Rockstar has confirmed it's coming in 2025 - though there’s no official indication exactly when. Let’s hope sooner than later.
Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on PlayStation 5 as well as Xbox Series S and X. PC gamers could have to wait until 2026 before playing the title - Rockstar has a track record of holding it back at least a year for those gaming away from a console.
