Guy Martin Will Pit His Superbike Against Red Bull’s F1 Car In A Series Of Challenges

It's the age old question: what's faster, two or four wheels? Channel 4 is going to find out by pitting a 200bhp superbike against a 750bhp F1 car

As part of Channel 4’s new Formula 1 coverage, Isle of Man TT legend Guy Martin will pit his factory specification superbike against David Coulthard’s F1 car in a series of challenges. We’ve seen bike vs car races in the past, but this battle promises to be much more intensive. The pair will perform a drag race, circuit race, a slalom and a brake test. And to top it all off both sports stars will undergo mental tests to compare reaction times and levels of concentration.

Guy’s social media team explained that the competition was organised for a special TV programme to launch Channel 4’s new F1 coverage:

“In this special programme, broadcast ahead of the launch of Formula 1 on Channel 4, Guy will go head to head with racing legend David Coulthard, pitting bike against car in a test of speed the like of which Silverstone has never seen before.

“With David in a V8 Red Bull car (with an 11-man pit crew) and Guy on his Tyco BMW Superbike (which came with just one man - Guy’s most trusted race mechanic), the pair explore each other’s worlds the way they both know best; by racing in a series of head-to-head challenges including a drag race, a brake test, a slalom and a full on circuit race.

The laws of physics are on the F1 car’s side, more wheels = more contact patch which enables faster cornering.

F1 car is faster it’s already proven. A tuned STI was nearly as quick around the IOMTT track as Guy Martin on a superbike.

An Impreza STI was nearly as quick as the bikes around the iomtt… an F1 car would destroy a bike.

The main trouble is grip and being able to put power on ground, so theoretically, when it gets more twisty, having more wheels is always better.
Theoretically because Tyrrel P34(/racecar).

Pretty sure that was a staged result. But it would make sense if it wasn’t
