Hamann Tuning's Fiat 500 Largo With 265HP

German tuning firm Hamann has had a go at Fiat's 500. They've decided that what the diminutive little Italian city car needed was more power. A lot more power. They bumped up the output to 265 HP as a matter of fact. So, is that insane, or insanely fun?

There's a lot to love about the latest iteration of the venerable Fiat 500. Look at it as an Italian version of the Mini, only with more panache, and you can see where I'm coming from. And the petite 500 has been a hit with the aftermarket tuners as well. The latest got have a go at it is Hamann. The German firm just rolled out their version, dubbed the Hamann Largo at this years Frankfurt show.

The Hamann Largo features a strongly modified 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that cranks out an astounding 265 horsepower at 5,630 rpm and 348 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. Compare that with the base models 135 HP and 206 Nm and you can see how much Hamann is squeezing out of the little engine. So far, Hamann has been mute on performance figures, but you don't have to be a rocket scientist to know that it's acceleration should be remarkable.

There's no specifics on what Hamann did to the engine, but we do know what else the Hamann Largo features. There's a sport exhaust system for starters. It features four exhaust pipes, a pre-muffler with a metal catalyst and a sport manifold. There is also a high-performance brake system, which is a good thing, given how fast this little beast should accelerate. The stoppers feature internally ventilated brake discs with 4-piston calipers at the front and optional 257mm discs at the rear. There's also a sport suspension that lowers the car's center of gravity by 60 mm.

Hamann has a habit of making its tuner specials in all black, and the Largo is no different. It also features an aggressively styled bodykit with new fender extensions that widen the car by 30mm out front and 35mm in back. The body kit also has side skirts, front and rear aprons and a diffuser at the back.

Naturally the Largo also has sportier wheels and tires. You get 18-inch alloy wheels that come with high-performance sport tires that are 215/35 ZR18 or optionally, 225/35 ZR18. On the inside there's an aluminum pedal set, a door mat set and embroidered logos.

So far, there's no pricing or performance specs, but Hamann says those will arrive shortly.
