Here Are The Fancy Michelin Boots That Come With The New Mustang
It certainly seems like the Mustang is edging even closer to sports car territory with its latest update. Not only will it be available with adaptive dampers and a 10-speed automatic gearbox - owners will also have the option of posh Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres.
Ford detailed the tyres this week, revealing that the PS 4 S hoops in question have been specifically developed for the car, and will measure 275/40/19 at the back rear and 255/40/19 at the front. According to Ford, the Mustang marks the “mass-market North American debut” for the product.
They’re part of the $4000 Performance Pack, which is shaping up to be decent value, considering that the 4 S is a pricey tyre. It’s a clever lump of rubber too, with neat touches like an aramid/nylon blend belt that helps the tyre keep its shape under load, keeping a larger contact patch. On the automatic Mustang GTs in ‘drag mode’, the stickier Michelins help the car on the way to a sub-four second 0-60mph time.
It’s even better news for us residing on the other side of The Pond - since European-spec Mustangs come with the Performance Pack fitted as standard, we’ll presumably get the fancier rubber without having to tick any option boxes.
