Here's An Alfa Romeo Brera S With A 370bhp Supercharged V6

The Alfa Romeo Brera is a car you buy for the looks, not the performance. The 2.2-litre petrol versions are painfully slow, and even the top-of-the-range V6 isn’t that quick, with a 0-62mph time that barely drops below the seven-second mark.

To make matters worse, the Brera shirked the legendary ‘Busso’ V6 in favour of 3.2 derived from the GM ‘High Feature’ unit, which remains the dullest six-cylinder engine I’ve ever experienced. Admittedly, Alfa changed quite a bit of the Australian-built six-banger, choosing to fit bespoke cylinder head, exhaust and injection system. But still, a Busso it is not.

There were rumours of a Maserati V8-powered GTA model (quite how that would have worked with the Brera’s transverse engine layout, we’re not sure), but that never happened.

It’s not all bad news for those after a faster, sportier Brera, however. This one’s packing a supercharger from London-based Alfa tuners Autodelta, bringing the total output to a much more palatable 370bhp. It’s had the “brakes and drivetrain have been uprated” to cope with the added thrust, although exactly what’s been done hasn’t been detailed.

The starting point for the project was a Brera S - those were the sharper, Prodrive-fettled versions of the coupe, and they remain the ones to have. Then again, part of Prodrive’s overhaul involved ditching the four-wheel drive system, so the power delivery of this 370bhp, front-wheel drive Brera could be…interesting.

The car has done 63,338 miles - relatively low for a 10-year-old car. It also sounds like it’s had rather a lot of money chucked at it, and we’re not just talking about the supercharger conversion, which Autodelta currently chargers over £7000 for.

Unfortunately, this is reflected in the price: it’s up for £17,995, making it by far the most expensive Brera for sale in the UK right now.
