Here's Aston Martin’s New DBX SUV Testing On A Filthy Rally Stage
Aston Martin has released a handful of pictures showing an early prototype of its SUV getting its drift on around a Welsh rally stage.
It will use the name DBX, as expected, following in the concept’s tyre tracks. Clearly it’s not going to be designed purely for posing outside casinos in Monaco, either. An unspecified rally stage in a country renowned for the toughness of its rallies is the base for the DBX prototype’s first round of punishment.
The first pre-production DBX got a little sideways for the cameras in the hands of Chief Engineer Matt Becker. He said:
“We have already developed and tuned DBX in the driving simulator, which has enabled us to make excellent progress in advance of the first physical prototype cars being available. Still, it’s always a big day when you get to put the first actual miles on an early prototype and I’m delighted with the near perfect correlation between the simulator and this prototype.
“As an engineer, it’s genuinely exciting to get a feel for the car you’re working to create. The DBX is a very different kind of Aston Martin, but we will be testing it in all conditions and across all terrains to ensure it delivers a driving experience worthy of the wings badge.”
It’s just a year until the production-ready DBX will be revealed to the world. Wales was chosen as the first place to test it as a nod to the brand-new St Athan factory west of Cardiff. All DBXs will be built there before the site gears up to produce all Aston Martin EVs, and potentially also those branded Lagonda. South Wales also happens to be quite a pretty place to put a car, luckily.
Later stages of the DBX’s development will take numerous test mules to the Arctic Circle, middle-eastern deserts and, naturally, the Nurburgring via an autobahn or two. We don’t expect it will look quite so good anywhere as it does caked in mud on a Welsh hillside.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I actually like how they making it stand out, reminds me of the fisker
glad aston realizes how similar all crossovers look and tried to change that
Clarence is a legend.
Why?????????????????!???!??!??!!!!???!
because money
Oh.
Me: (looks at obscured thumbnail) this doesn’t look so bad
Me: (upon seeing taillights and grille) I severely miscalculated
Those taillights aren’t even flush with the rear… clearly prototype camo-ing. My guess is it’ll be a full-width LED strip like on the new Vantage.
Please no, not another suv crossover shit 😭
Every day we stray further from God’s light
wait…. WHAT???
Aston Martin is making an SUV?!?!?
tbh I’m not surprised but also surprised
these are like a pension for car companies, why not have one.
What was Aston’s design department thinking when they made this?
That they need to get in the suv game
It’s a prototype covered in camouflage. Hold back on dissing the design department until you’ve actually seen the thing properly.
