Here's The Cayman GT3 RS Porsche Daren't Build
Let's reel off the main facts of life (no, not those, ask your parents if you're still confused). They are these: On the eighth day, Stuttgart created the Porsche Cayman, and it was good. Tricky to drift if you're a novice, but good.
Then Porsche replaced it with a lighter, faster Cayman, and they saw that it was really quite blindingly good. And lo, Jaguar papped themselves, for the F-type was screwed.
Despite Porsche's near unbeatable sports car maker status though, there's one thing they just can't touch. The Cayman will never get a lightened, uprated GT3 RS version, with track-spec aero and as much power as the chassis could take? Why? Because it's mid-engined balace would nuke the pricier 911. Awkward.
Thankfully, we have tuners to boldly go where Porsche shareholders would rather they didn't. This is the speedArt SP81-CR.
First off, there's a big GT3-style rear wing and a cheeky front splitter. Airflow under the car is cleaned up by the diffuser - an essential on-track part 911s can't use thanks to their arseful of engine. The speedArt also gets a GT2 RS-style carbon fibre bonnet lid.
The wheels are split-rim 21-inchers, and they're probably the weakest part of the package, but that's nothing a set of Gembella or Hamaan two-tone alloys couldn't solve.
Okay, enough teasing. Power has been bumped to 400bhp, up from 325bhp in the Cayman S. That's only as much as a regular 911 Carrera S, but the lighter, smaller Cayman would monster it head-to-head.
We knew the new Cayman would be a ride to look out for in 2013. Your move, Porsche.
