Here's A Driver's Eye View Of A Halo-Equipped F1 Car
For spectators, the biggest change to Formula 1 this year is arguably the Halo device. The safety feature has caused outcry among fans for restricting their view of the drivers, and making the cars look, well, a bit ugly.
But what’s it like for the drivers? Thanks to these two videos - one from Williams featuring reserve driver Robert Kubica and another from Mercedes with Valtteri Bottas at the wheel - we get a rough idea.
As an observer, Halo looks to be quite intrusive, but the general consensus among the drivers so far is that in the cockpit, it isn’t an issue. The middle portion is thin so eyes tend to focus past it, while the thicker halo part is largely above the field of vision.
The drivers are clearly getting used to the device already, but will spectators? Time will tell.
Growing up on a diet of World Rally Championship highlights and lengthy Gran Turismo 2 sessions, a life in cars was as good as inevitable for Matt.

I like how they did the halo in formula e better, because I think it fits with the rest of the cars design better.

I don’t find the Halo nearly as bad looking now that it’s on the cars. Still could be better though.
Okay, now that we made the cars safe, it’s time to make them faster again. Really a shame that, with all the modern tech, the current F1 cars are still slower than the 2004 season cars are.

Around most tracks the 2017 cars have been the fastest F1 cars ever..
The current cars are way faster than the 2004 cars in qualy . In the race they don’t go as fast as the 2004 cars because of no refuelling and only 4 engines for the season vs 1 fresh
engine every race in 2004.
The current cars are as quick as the 2004 cars around most tracks. What we need is downforce that promotes overtaking, and cheaper, simpler engines. Just make it a higher-revving turbo V6 rather than messing about with that MGU-H nonsense.
