Here’s The Horrifying Sight Of Dozens Of Innocent Motorbikes Being Crushed By Earth Movers

The City of New York put up a live stream this week showing dozens of seized motorcycles and ATVs getting crushed to death as part of a publicity stunt

You might ask yourself why exactly the City of New York and the NYPD decided to obliterate a bunch of motorbikes so publicly (skip to the 29min mark for the actual crushing). Well, it’s all about proving a point. Responding to all the criticism in the comments section of the video, a City of New York Facebook page admin said:

“These vehicles are illegal in the City of New York. We are committed to making the streets of our city completely safe. That means leaving no opportunity for these things to find their way back to our roads and further endanger our fellow New Yorkers. This is the same reason we destroy the guns we confiscate.”

Putting aside the extraordinary wording which compares these machines to firearms, it’s important to note he or she is only half right: they’re illegal to ride on the street in New York, not illegal full stop. And why crush them in some daft publicity stunt which most people will see right through? As many of the commenters suggested, why not auction them off to people who’ll use them properly? Why not indeed…

Well said & thanks for the explanation. I find the part about emissions puzzling though; I would expect such light bikes to be more efficient than heavy cruser Harleys.

They are not built for road use. Efficiency is only a small part of emissions. While it may be far more fuel efficient. Tests show that most motorcycles spew many times the number of hazardous particles than even large very inefficient new vehicles. Burning less fuel does not mean you are burning it cleaner.

Are you sure their riders didnt do anything illegal? I think the story here is quite different

**Their riders, not the motorbike itself.

but you know what all those vehicles were seized for a reason. is not the police’s fault that these people did the wrong things. i am not saying that some cops go over the top and just abuse their power but if you look at most videos of motovloggers you can’t blame the cops to be mad. i mean like you do wheelies and go over the speed limit literally almost every time you’re on the road. im not saying that im taking anyone’s side but the truth is the truth.

The Philippine’s presumptive president (leads by landslide) Mr. Rodrigo Duterte did a similar thing with loud exhausts on motorcycles, but only exhausts were crushed. As it is easy to revert back to normal mufflers.

So unwise. Why not just sell the bikes and then donate the money they get to poor people?
